The Jungle Book Review

Lately, Disney has been basically redoing it's entire animated catalog as live action feature films. usually these films take talented directors (Tim Burton, Kenneth Branagh, Jon Favreau) and combine them with bankable stars (Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett) to recreate a classic Disney movie.  Though Maleficent and Cinderella both did decently well with critics and audiences alike while all the time cleaning up at the box office, the best one of these films so far, in my opinion, has been  The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book, based on the famous novel by Rudyard Kipling, and the 1967 animated film, really is a visual masterpiece.  Using some of the best visual effects I have eever seen in a movie, it reimigines the original movie in an eye-popping way.  This is absolutely supported by the inspired voice casting, with every single voice being perfect for their respective character.  even though it is hard to ever imagine anyone's voice besides the late great George Sanders playing Shere Khan, Idris Elba brings a new dimension to the classic villain.  Not only that, but this movie is just a lot of fun, and for all ages.  Everyone in the audience could really enjoy how the film played on the classic, without being an exact and boring replica.  Having some of the original songs, such as The Bare Necessities and I Wanna Be Like You was a great tribute to the original film.  Also, one of the most clever Easter eggs I spotted in the movie was the cowbell inside of King Louie's Temple, which obviously is a nod to Christopher Walken, who voices King Louie, and his More Cowbell sketch on Saturday Night Live.

The Jungle Book manages to be fun while being visually stunning and compelling.  Disney is now making many more of these movies, including remakes of Pete's Dragon, Beauty and the Beast, and ta whopping NINE other announced movies.  Will all of these be huge successes?  Probably not.  For Disney's upcoming live action films, they should take note from Jon Favreau, and try and replicate the success this film has.

Grade: 9/10

  2. Woah! That’s an outstanding rating. I must tell my cousins and friends about this. We are all planning to meet at my place on the coming weekend and watching this movie will be a good idea. I must share this post with them right now. I have also found series by Andy Yeatman online.
